The Center for Autism Resources and Education was developed as an inclusive, one-stop, trusted resource for Autism information across the lifespan.  The Community Autism plan identified an Autism Resource Center as an important priority.  This center was modeled after The Autism Program (TAP) center in Springfield and the Lorraine and George Shadid Autism Resource Center in Peoria, and was developed as an outreach program for  families and professionals working with children with Autism.

The center contains a wide variety of resources including:  visual  supports, books, Boardmaker (a software program that creates visual cues for tasks), DVDs, games, structured teaching kits, toys, computer software programs, internet access, learning aids and other materials.

The center is available for families, service providers, educators and the general community.

Many of the materials are free, and other materials are available on loan for two weeks.  Advice and assistance will be available if families are interested in purchasing these items.

Partners include Easter Seals, The Autism Program at Illinois State University, AOK (All Our Kids) Network, the Autism Society of McLean County, Child Care Resource and Referral Network, Central Illinois Service Agency (CISA), Bloomington Public Schools District 87, Illinois Wesleyan University, Marc First, McLean County Unit 5 School DistrictThe Baby Fold, Tri-County Special Education Association, and parents and family members.

The Center for Autism Resources and Education is made possible by funding from The Autism Program (TAP), RGK Foundation, The Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund, Caterpillar Foundation, The Illinois Prairie Community Foundation and   CVS/pharmacy.

The center will be housed at Easter Seals Bloomington at 2404 E. Empire, in Bloomington, IL.
