Seeking Families to Participate in Autism Intervention Study
About the Study Easter Seals Peoria-Bloomington is conducting a federal study of services for young children (3 to 5 years) with an autism spectrum disorder in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and McLean counties and other neighboring counties.
Participating families will be assigned to one of two groups: ~ 1 year in a Community Standard (CS) intervention group, OR ~ 1 year in the CS group plus The P.L.A.Y. Project program* *Half the families will receive the P.L.A.Y. Project (Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters) program, which will train parents to provide 2 hours of intensive intervention per day.
Who’s Eligible Families with children ages 2 1/2 - 5 1/2 years old who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and:
- are not receiving an intensive intervention for autism (more than 10 hours per week).
- are willing to spend 1 - 2 hours per day in playful interactions with their child
if assigned the P.L.A.Y. Project intervention). - are willing to complete thorough assessments and surveys.
are willing to have their child evaluated by an Easter Seals therapist.
Participants Will Receive
- The latest comprehensive evaluations (pre and post intervention)
- A $200 stipend for completion of the study
- Community standard autism services or community standard services plus The P.L.A.Y. Project
